“The world just does not fit conveniently
into the format of a 35mm camera.”

- W. EUGENE

This post is dedicated to my Kandi Kane. :) This is Kandi’s 35mm Yashica TL-Electro X. Isn’t it pretty? She brought it into work today and she actually let me take it home to play with! The camera came with a couple of lenses (wide angle & telephoto), 2 Kenko polarizers (different sizes), 1 Kenko Six-face Mirage filter, 1 Kenko Vari Mirage filter (Sweet!), and a Vivtar 252 Automatic Electronic Flash. I still gotta clean the interior, (my hands are covered in black…stuff. I dunno what it is! Stop laughing Kandi!) but I’m super excited to get it working again! Once I figure it out, then I shall teach Kandi “the young grasshopper” the ways of this manual camera. ;)

I know that some people don’t get the fascination with 35mm cameras, but I honestly feel that I’ll understand photography better using a film camera rather than a digital. With film, you can’t afford to waste a shot so it makes you put some thought into your pictures before you actually shoot your subject(s). And then there’s the matter of taking into consideration the aperture, shutter speed, manual focus, composition, etc., so it just makes sense to start with the manual and learn photography that way.

What is a face, really?
Its own photo? Its make-up?
Or is it a face as painted by such or such painter?
That which is in front? Inside? Behind? And the rest?
Doesn’t everyone look at himself in [...]
